Speleonectes gironensis Yager, 1994

Speleonectes gironensis Yager, 1994: 752, figs 1-7.

Type material. HOLOTYPE: adult, 14 mm, USNM 259702. ?PARATYPES: 3 adults, 2 subadults and 1 juvenile; 2 adults and 2 juveniles, ACCIES.

Type locality. Cueva de los Carboneros, Matanzas Province, Playa Giron, Cuba.

Description. Based on Yager, 1994: 752, figs 1-7. Body length short (3.6-14 mm), with 19-25 segments; pleura rounded posterolaterally. Head shield subrectangular. Antenna 1 short, less than 1/3 body length; dorsal ramus (exopod) with 10 articles; ventral ramus (endopod) with 6-7 articles. Antenna 2 exopod with about 20-26 plumose setae along margin (22). Maxilla 1 prehensile; articles 2 and 3 free; article 4 with 2 robust apical setae (and several smaller setae); article 5 with 1-2 robust broad based setae (and about 6 slender setae), endite present, conical in shape; article 7 a long slender terminal claw. Maxilla 2 prehensile; consecutively shorter and smaller distal to point of flexure; article 5 with slender robust setae on posterior margin of article distal to point of flexure; posterior margin distal to point of flexure with long, robust setae; article 7 with long central spine, a row of subterminal spines and proximally opposing simple setae. Maxillipedi0 prehensile; consecutively shorter distal to article 5 (point of flexure); with slender robust setae on posterior margin of article distal to point of flexure; posterior margin distal to point of flexure with long, robust setae; article 6 divided into 3 articles; article 7 with long central spine, a row of subterminal spines and proximally opposing simple setae. Uropodal rami about 2 x length of anal segment.

Distribution. Matanzas Province, Cuba.
